The Bureau of Indian Education was invited to present in the Community of Practice topic for "Family Engagement" as Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe Schools was noteworthy in implementing the local literacy plan while successfully embedding the Native Ojibwe language and culture with the participation of the family and community.

The U.S Department of Education invited BIE to participate in a Community of Practice (CoP) to present a Bright Spot to celebrate one of BIE's CLSD Subgrantee. Congratulations to the school for their amazing work and successful implantation of the CLSD grant as it pertains to Literacy for Family Engagement. The school has been contacted and agreed to participate. The BIE CLSD Bright Spot presentation was presented on Monday, October 13th at 12:00 p.m. (MDT). Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe Schools shared their strategy to address the growing concern that indigenous languages and their associated cultures are at risk of disappearing. They also addressed the need for targeted intervention to promote and develop these languages and cultures in younger generations. This initiative was a creative partnership between students and their tribe elders. The presentation was recorded by the CLSD Lead Technical Assistance Liaison. Thereafter, BIE was provided a copy of the recorded webinar that will eventually be shared on the BIE website. This link is being prepared and will be forthcoming. The school administration gave permission for the presentation to be share on the BIE website to celebrate this CLSD Bright Spot moment.
